Home Lighting

Selection of products for lighting the different rooms of the home.

Lighting in a house is essential: we tell you what you must take into account when lighting.

Artificial light is very important in a house (of course, natural light too): you can achieve, simply with a spotlight, give a piece more amplitude or make it darker, depending on where you place it, the type of light, color, etc. . Bad architecture (which there is) can be improved with good interior design, and good interior design always has good lighting.

"The success of many small spaces is that they are well lit and when doing so, three types of light have to be taken into account: general, ambient, and detail and furniture."

The first is with which we make sure that we have the necessary lights to see correctly: they are the points of light on the ceiling. "If we pass or we do not arrive, we will have visual fatigue that we can also suffer with glare," he clarifies. How many points of light will you need in a room? “Many manufacturers offer simple catalogs where they tell you how many square meters each luminaire illuminates and from what height. In general, you have to have a light point every 5 square meters ”, he says.

You also have to take into account the opening angle of the luminaire, which ranges from 24 degrees, being more focal, to 120 degrees, being more diffuse. “For living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms, we recommend between 24 and 35 degrees. And above 80 degrees for kitchens and hallways. There are also simple programs like Dialux, with which we can illuminate in a more professional way ”.

Ambient lighting: as its name suggests, it illuminates spaces to invite relaxation. If we are watching television and reading with a reading lamp, the rest of the room can work with indirect lighting. “Illuminated cornices or holes in false ceilings are perfect for this solution: they have a Led strip inside that allows the intensity to be adjusted. In both general and ambient lighting we must not forget the color temperature ”, explains García. If the temperature is 6000º K, we will have white light and with 2500º K, yellow light, the choice goes to the taste of each one although we recommend 4000º K, which is intermediate.

Detail lighting: These are spotlights that illuminate concrete walls or objects, for example, the one that is usually on top of a painting. Also, very small recessed spotlights in bookcase shelves or in the upper shelf of a display case. At ground level you can also put points of light: "For example, on each step of a staircase or along a corridor", he concludes.
